Carole Jean Giefer

Giefer Carole Jean Age 94 died Wednesday September 27. Carole was preceded in death by her husband Melvin who died in June 2011. Caroles siblings Glenn David and June Jarchow and their spouses are all deceased. Carole is survived by her children: son Jim Sandy daughters Melva Hill of Arizona Muriel Haglind partner Jim Gels of Shorewood; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Carole Holliday a St. Paul woman graduated from Wilson High School. She met Melvin Giefer during his leave from the army in October1944. She and Melvin married in December 1944 in California before he was shipped to the Pacific. She was a beautiful war bride. They celebrated 66 years of marriage. Carol and Melvin resided in St. Pauls east side while raising their family. Carole enjoyed the company of her own siblings and Melvins six siblings and their spouses as well as 36 nieces and nephews during their life in St. Paul. Carole and Melvin retired in 1986 and lived in Mesa Arizona until returning back to the metro area in 2001. In the recent years she lived at The Landings in Minnetonka an assisted living residence. Carole relished family and the frequent gatherings of relatives. She enjoyed golf and fishing and having fun and giving away many crocheted baby blankets afghans and dish cloths for family and friends. She continued to play card games cribbage and five hundred; and do crossword puzzles right up to her final month. Carol had the life-long loving devotion of her children and grandchildren.
