John Robert Hamm

April 14, 1966 — January 4, 2019

~ His wings were ready, but our hearts were not ~ John Robert Hamm of Ham Lake, Minnesota, at home peacefully in his sleep on January 4th. He was 52 years old. John was born in Minneapolis on April 14, 1966. He grew up in North Minneapolis until the family moved to Ham Lake in 1976. He graduated from Blaine High School in 1984 and went on to work in the construction trade. John was always ready to lend a helping hand to those who needed it. Sometimes it was only as much as hooking up his trailer to help a family member moving again, even though he couldn't help with the actual moving, other times it was to help with a car problem. He was a great mechanic and fixed many lawnmowers so that they ran like new and if someone needed one and had no funds-no problem! He would give them away. When he was feeling better he used to collect old bicycles, find new parts and fix them up to sell but he also gave them away too - he was proud to watch children in our neighborhood riding and having fun with the bikes and toys he had worked on. It was hard for him with his physical problems, but he would do as much as he could to be there for his family and friends. He especially loved to hear from people he was close to, and he spent many hours on the phone to those too far away to visit with in person. We will all know the sorrow of missing him in our daily lives. John is preceded in death by many dear friends also gone too soon, his grandparents, and his beloved dog, Sabrina. John is survived by his parents Ronald and Sheryn Hamm, his son Tommy, daughter Kati and her husband Dylan, grandchildren Macoy and Dylan Jr., his sisters, Lynn Hamm-Diskerud and Teresa Hamm-Varone, as well as his nieces Jenna Diskerud, Melissa Lecy and Kristina Johnson and nephews Kyle Lecy and Tyler Ness, and their respective families. Please join us on Saturday February 2nd from 4-7:30pm at Maxx Bar & Grill, 17646 Central Avenue North in Ham Lake. They have graciously provided for a keg of beer for a $10.00 per person donation (wristband) until it is gone. Memorial contributions may also be made directly to the family at Maxx's. The family looks forward to seeing you all as we gather in his honor to share our memories with each other. There will be tears, but there will also be laughter - just as John would want.
