Marilyn Rae Olmstead (Carlson), 92, was ushered into Heaven on April 11, 2023. She was born at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis on June 20, 1930 to Raymond and Wilma Carlson. Preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert James Olmstead, Jr and grandson Dayton Olmstead. She is survived by son Scott (Ann) Olmstead; son Bruce (Susan) Olmstead; daughter Sue (Tom) Peterson; son Paul (Sharon) Olmstead; Cherished Grandchildren: Tovi (Brett) Nelson; Leah (Mark) Nixon; Lindsey Davis; Tyler (Gina) Olmstead; Heather (Kyle) Meyers; Jason (Jordan) Olmstead; Christopher (Sydney) Olmstead; and Luke Peterson. 16 Great-Grandchildren: Addison, Autumn, Avery, Cade, Coy, Delaney, Emilia, Jackson, Joanna, Kyleigh Faith, Landry, Leryn, Peyton, Tav, and Zoey. Attended John Erickson Grade School in Minneapolis, Nokomis Junior High School in Minneapolis and Roosevelt Senior High in Minneapolis. Attended Macalester College then transferred to the University of Minnesota Nursing School. Also earned a Masters Degree in Nursing after her children were grown. She met Robert James Olmstead, Jr at Camp Tipi Wakan in Spring Park, Minnesota. They later married on December 5, 1953 at First Christian Church in St Paul, Minnesota. She came to Unity Hospital's Labor & Delivery area October 1969; then became Head Nurse October 1977. She transferred to a PM Supervisory position in Nursing Administration in September of 1978. "Her kindness and pleasant, unruffled manner will be missed." Known for: her love of travel with family and friends, especially to Hawaii; sunbathing, road trips in the family station wagon, anything milk chocolate, making her homemade fudge and caramel rolls; Bob's Produce Colorado peaches; surviving the Fridley Tornado in 1965; enjoying time at family cabin & calling the loons on Lake Sylvia in Annandale, MN; watching Minnesota Twins baseball and Gopher Football; and especially hearing about what her children and grandchildren were up to. A Memorial Service in her honor will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Choice Cremation, 7398 University Avenue NE, Fridley, MN 55432. Visitation from 9:00 - 10:30 am; Service at 10:30 am, to be followed by 145pm commital service at Fort Snelling Cemetery. Service will be livestreamed from this page at 1030am CST.
