Formerly of Columbia Heights. Passed away WednesdaySeptember 6 2017. Bob was born in Minneapolis and grew up in Southeast Mpls. He attended Marshall High prior to enlisting in the US Air Force where he served for four years during the Korean Conflict. In 1952 Bob met and married Rose Bickler of Harvey and Cathay ND. He worked for the US Postal Service briefly but soon found his dream job; truck driver He loved driving the "big rigs" and was proud of driving for Thirty-three years without an accident. Bob's favorite pastime was working with wood. This is evident in his many projects from remodeling rooms building trellises storage sheds and the home on Union Lake. Bob was a wonderful husband and father. The memories of the fun of camping hunting and fishing are many. The weekends when we worked one day and played one day at the Indian Lake cabin will never be forgotten. Bob taught everyone to water ski at the lake and to skate and play hockey at the city park. He was so graceful and fluid whether dancing on ice or roller skates or water skiing. In the past few years Bob suffered from dementia and lived at Three Links Care Center for the last twenty months. he never lost his great sense of humor and soon became a favorite of all of the people who had contact with him. Bob is survived by Rose his wife of 64 years and his five children; Robert Bruce Estie Berg Renita Scott Hartfiel Rochelle Jeff Smith Rhonda Scott Wolf and Randel Karen Berg. He will also be missed by twelve Grandchildren; twenty Great-Grandchildren and three Great-Great-Grandchildren. A private Memorial Service will be held Friday- October 20 2017 11 AM at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Three Links landscape project.
